OBERLIN, OH — The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras will present the final concert of its 45th anniversary season on Sunday, March 23rd at 3:30 PM in Warner Concert Hall at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Featuring performances by each of NOYO’s ensembles, the program will include world premieres of works by commissioned in celebration of its 45th anniversary and performances by the winners of the 2014 NOYO Concerto Competition.
The Rhythm & Brass under the direction of Michael Roest, will premiere Plum Creek by Oberlin Conservatory alumnus and conductor of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras’ Philharmonia Orchestra, Matthew Chamberlain. Conductor Peggie Willett will lead the Symphonetta Strings in the premiere performance of Primula written by acclaimed Japanese composer Yukiko Nishimura. The Philharmonia Orchestra will premiere Mists by Oberlin Conservatory graduate, Jessie Downs. 2014 NOYO Concerto competition winners, Cody Ray (trumpet, 11th grade, Wadsworth, OH) and Nathan Hammond (violin, 7th grade, Oberlin, OH) will perform solos accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestras has provided outstanding orchestral training to the youth of Northern Ohio since 1969. Based at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, NOYO attracts gifted young musicians ages 8 to 18, spanning a geographic area from Toledo to Cleveland. These musicians rehearse weekly under the guidance of dedicated professional musicians to perform innovative programs juxtaposing new works alongside classical masterpieces.
